Magic and Other Misdemeanors by Michael Buckley, Sisters Grimm #5

July 5, 2018 – July 10, 2018

July 4, 2022 – July 4, 2022

Oh this just keeps getting better and better! Obviously I love the part where she finds out she’s married to Puck, but there are a million other things. Like the stuff with Mr. C, and the heartbreaking story about Cinderella and her husband. And all the stuff with Charming? It’s late but I’m starting the next book and eating some chocolate.

July 2, 2022 – July 4, 2022

What’s up with people’s obsession with New York City?

This one is one of my favorites, with my favorite parts being when she gets “marked” as Puck’s protector, when he comes out of his cocoon, when he spills out his feelings after his father’s funeral, and when he catches her.

This is also fun because my fanfic is of them as adults with him being king and everything with them living in NYC. Daugh these books are fun.

The Problem Child by Michael Buckley, Sisters Grimm #3

July 2, 2022 – July 2, 2022

Look it’s only 11:30! I’d like to thank the chocolate bar next to my bed. Now I think this is best book, because it is all about Puck. How could she go off and want to marry that other guy? I tried to explain to my husband how it was ok because deep down she didn’t want to marry him and was in love with Puck. He didn’t get it- maybe I should let him read my fanfic where I explained it better. 😝. Anyways, back to this book when they are most definitely eleven. Their first kiss was awesome- you can tell that they were both shocked by how it rocked their worlds. I don’t care that they are tweens, I’m loving and shipping them so hard! ❤️. Other thoughts: man, these books could also be titled “a series of Sabrina making bad choices.” I know it wasn’t completely her fault because she was addicted just ahhhhhh she could be so dumb! But she is eleven… I can appreciate that he’s being realistic. At least I know she matures and makes better choices. Character growth and everything. I love these books. I can’t wait until my kids are old enough to read them. I even showed my seven year old daughter Snow White to help prep her for them. Yay for that!

June 26, 2022 – June 26, 2022

Oooo this one was fun. It’s also the first time you see a hint that Puck likes her. As I said before I am totally there for their relationship. And Snow White being hardcore is a favorite as well. I burned through this one in one day because I was sick. Let’s see how long it’ll take me to get through the next one.

The Fairy-Tale Detectives by Michael Buckley, Sisters Grimm #1

April 5, 2017 – April 7, 2017

June 25, 2022 – June 26, 2022

I’ve been OBSESSED with this story for the past forever, especially the last two weeks. I wrote some fanfic of what happened after the last book and Sabrina’s wedding and just Puckbrina as married adults. I was worried that reading them as kids would be weird, but it’s not. These books are great. I kind of feel like I want to own them. Luke just turned 10, so I think he’s ready for them. I’m so excited to share them with him!

A Twist of Fate by Kelley Armstrong, A Stitch in Time #2

May 23, 2022 – May 24, 2022

Oh my GOSH I just wanted smack August over the head with a frying pan for a good chunk of this book. Like I kept saying to my friend who recommended this book “there better be a scene where he is on his knees groveling for her forgiveness.” And when it came it wasn’t quite as grovely as I would have liked but was good enough.

Honestly the thing that got me through this was knowing that there needed to be sex in this book, which means that they work things out that they feel like having sex with each other.

Can we also talk about the beginning where she sees William and then does the exact opposite of what any sane person would do and does NOT go up to him? I was really mad at the author about that.

All I’m doing is complaining.

My heart did also hurt A LOT when I realized that four years had passed. She missed his entire toddlerhood and preschool years. And yeah they cover that grief and give it plenty of room to be acknowledged, but I still don’t know if it was worth putting myself through that.

I’m glad I read this book though. Like I said in Stitch in Time they just wouldn’t shut up about her, so clearly I needed to read this one.

The next one comes out this October and is about her sister Miranda. I cringed back every time they said her name (long story with a bitter history with the name) and I don’t know if I could do a whole book with it. It doesn’t help that she apparently is a writer just like me. Ug, at least I don’t see ghosts.

Maybe I’ll go back and read Stitch in Time. I want more of William and Bronwyn as a married couple (I’m INVESTED in them) or I want a whole book of that summer they were dating at age 15. This isn’t a want, this is clearly a need.

Ballgowns & Butterflies by Kelley Armstrong, A Stitch in Time #1.5

May 22, 2022 – May 22, 2022

Ok that was just stinking cute and exactly what I needed to calm my “how are they going to make it work?!?” There is still the question of what they are going to do about Mary, but maybe the whole town knows something is going on and just doesn’t care. I did smile when William and August make the bet on the baby’s sex. And I like how they talk about the body image stuff. And how he doesn’t care. And how she addresses the time travel issues by flat out saying “it doesn’t matter, the universe decided you can time travel so clearly it isn’t going to implode.”

I guess I need to read the next book, even though it sounds stressful. They just won’t shut up about this baker lady! Clearly this story matters as the author has put SO much into the backstory. Gonna check that it has a good ending though from my friend.

May 26, 2022 – May 26, 2022

Update: this is still a ridiculously cute book. These two make me so happy. The friend who introduced me to them confessed that she had an ulterior motive. She wants fanfic, and I’m a writer. And while I desperately want more about these two I don’t know if I could do it. Maybe. I’ve never written fanfic before, but these guys might be a good place to try. Of course what would be even better is if she just wrote more novellas….. hint hint. To the author who is totally going to read this. (Sigh)

A Stitch in Time by Kelley Armstrong, A Stitch in Time #1

May 20, 2022 – May 21, 2022

This was a recommendation from a friend who assured me that it was safe and that she thought of me while reading it. That being said I sent her a few text messages that went “because you thought of me while reading this I’m assuming William isn’t the killer” and “because you thought of me while reading this I assume she isn’t trapped on her side forever” followed up with “She’s PREGNANT?!!!?!!??” And finally “ok that was actually a really good book, thanks for letting me know to read it.”

That was a lot of spoilers, but hey, I have spoiler filters select thingy on.

I really did like this book. I was even able to get past the polygamy thing (what is it called when a woman is the one with multiple husbands?). In my theology I believe that marriage lasts forever even after you die, so I’ve always been uncomfortable having widows remarry. That didn’t stop me from loving this love story though.

Another shocker that I was able to get past was their age. I write YA about the oldest my characters is 19, so it was reeeally weird reading about a 38 year old falling in love. Then I realized that’s only three years away from me….. and I stared at a wall and faced my own mortality.

Ok all that aside, the ghost story was terrifying but not enough to give me nightmares. I still didn’t see the ending until it happened, but was pretty clear once it pointed out who the killer was.

It says at the end there is another book. I don’t know how that could be considering how perfectly wrapped up this one is. Maybe I’ll check it out after having my friend vet it was well.

Update: so the next one is about what’s his names wife, and I realized with a shock that they didn’t resolve her mystery. And now that I’m rereading this book it hits me that they talk about her A LOT. So everything is laid out for a sequel. Daugh. I love these two so much I don’t really have any desire to read about someone else. I mean they’re going to have a baby! How are they going to work out the logistics of her living an ocean away! Ah!

May 23, 2022 – May 26, 2022

Update: “I love you. I’ve always loved you. I will always love you. I can’t do anything but love you.” (Swoon). Yes. I turned around and reread this in the same week, that’s how much I loved this book. And the novella did a great job answering a ton of questions. I’m moving this book from four stars to five.

The Gift of Dyslexia: Why Some of the Smartest People Can’t Read…and How They Can Learn by Ronald D. Davis, Eldon M. Braun

October 4, 2021 – May 18, 2022

I was initially super excited by this book, and when he went into details about what happens in your brain trying to read linearly as a kid made me happy. Then he went into all these theories about what causes it, and then it turned into him talking about how great his method is….. it wasn’t what I hoped it could be and honestly his theories don’t match what I and other dyslexia people I know experience. But I can tell he felt very happy with his conclusions and his success and if it actually helped people that’s great. I just end up feeling alienated, which sucked.
